GEM CELEBRATES WORLD AIDS DAY

The World Aids Day celebrations were commemorated in Nairobi County was held at the Deputy County Commissioner’s grounds in Kibra Sub-County. The theme of this year’s Celebrations was getting to Zero HIV infection; Zero HIV related Deaths and Zero Discrimination.

The celebrations were led by the Chief Guest the County Director of Health, Dr.Wango’ndu, the National Aids Control Council, (NACC) in Collaboration with CSOs who have been working in the field of HIV and AIDs.

This year’s theme strongly resonated with the advocacy work that GEM has been carrying out in last one year, to end forced and coerced sterilization of Women Living with HIV and Aids, supported by Open Society Foundation. Forced and Coerced sterilization is fuelled by stigma and discrimination.

As a way of amplifying the voice against forced and coerced sterilization, a woman victim of forced and coerced sterilization shared her experience with public sighted the negative effects that sterilization had caused in her life. In her sharing she urged those present to respect the rights of Women living with HIV and AIDs.
