Hearing of Petition 606 of 2014: Forced and Coerced Sterilization of Women Living with HIV

Who: LAW, Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV & AIDS (KELIN), African Gender and Media Initiative Trust (GEM) Vs. Marura Maternity and Nursing Home, the Nairobi County Executive Committee Member in charge of Health Services, the Cabinet Secretary – Ministry of Health, Republic of Kenya and The Attorney General.

What: The High Court in Nairobi (Constitutional and Human Rights Division) will on Tuesday, 3 May, 2016 hear Petition No. 606 of 2014. This is after the court gave a ruling that allowed the enjoinment of Prof Alicia Ely Yamin as a friend of the court. The Court also allowed the enjoinment of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).

Why: The court had on 8 February, 2016 directed the parties to file their responses to the amended petition, their rejoinders and their written submissions. The Attorney General is yet to respond to the petition.

When: Tuesday, 3 May, 2016 at 10.00am

Where: High Court of Kenya at Nairobi, Court No. 1 on 3rd Floor, Milimani Law Courts.
