From Grass root to Policy Power
Belinda Auma Oluoch

Belinda Auma Oluoch, a sociologist and community development specialist, began her journey in Korogocho , a densely populated informal settlement in Nairobi where she founded the Korogocho Young Mums CBO to support adolescent girls and young women facing teenage pregnancy, GBV, and stigma.

Her hands-on work soon earned her a seat at strategic spaces, including youth-led coalitions and advisory boards such the Right Here Right Now global program and Miss Koch Kenya. On these boards, she played a pivotal role in amplifying grassroots voices, shaping youth agendas, and mentoring young leaders in effective SRHR advocacy.
One of her most impactful moments came when she was selected to co-lead a taskforce that drafted Nairobi County’s AY SRHR Framework. Drawing from her field experience, Belinda ensured the inclusion of adolescent-friendly services, Comprehensive Sexuality Education, and community-based referrals. Her skills in policy drafting, stakeholder engagement, and communication were instrumental in aligning community realities with county-level decision-making. Bella also works with the Ministry of Health in the drafting the Adolescent Health Policy which is at the Billing stage.
Bella has participated in drafting different memos and Position Papers both to National Assembly and the County Assembly championing for the rights of youths and women, and reviewing the Finance Bill 2024 and 2025.
Her story is not just about rising through the ranks, it is about bringing others along, creating room at the table for young people to co-own the policies that shape their health and futures.
