What we do

We advance gender equality by ensuring women and girls live with autonomy, dignity, and safety.

Thematic Areas of Focus

We tackle the core barriers to gender equality through focused action on SRHR, gender-based violence, climate justice, and evidence-driven advocacy.

Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

GEM Trust strengthens women’s and girls’ bodily autonomy by expanding access to quality SRHR information, services, and policies. We work with communities, health systems, and policymakers to address barriers to care, promote informed decision-making, and ensure environments where sexual and reproductive rights are fully realized.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

GEM Trust works to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls by challenging harmful norms, supporting survivors’ access to justice and services, and advocating for protective laws and policies. Our approach centers human dignity, safety, and equity, ensuring women and girls can thrive free from discrimination and abuse.

Climate Justice

GEM Trust champions climate justice by highlighting how women and girls are disproportionately affected by climate impacts. Through national leadership and advocacy, GEM ensures climate policies integrate gender equality and community resilience. The organization promotes women’s voices and rights at the center of sustainable climate solutions.

Research

GEM Trust generates high-quality, gender-responsive evidence that informs policies, shapes programs, and strengthens advocacy on women’s and girls’ rights. Through rigorous studies, community-based inquiries, and regional collaborations, we provide insights that illuminate emerging issues and drive actionable solutions for meaningful, sustainable change.

Why it matters

A global effort

Across our thematic areas, GEM Trust addresses the persistent inequalities that limit women’s and girls’ rights, health, safety, and opportunities. These challenges are rooted in systemic discrimination and are intensified by socioeconomic, political, and environmental barriers. Our work directly contributes to global commitments—including the SDGs, CEDAW, and the Maputo Protocol—ensuring that gender equality becomes a lived reality for all.
